When you think about Christmas, Thessaloniki might not be the first place that comes out, right? However, the city is evolving as one of the most promising Christmas destinations in Europe! That’s why we have prepared for you a short guide on things that you must-do if you’re spending your Christmas vacation in Thessaloniki. It’s the most wonderful time of the year as Andy Williams sang and we want to make it even more beautiful for you. Thessaloniki is situated in the north of Greece. The average high temperature, in December, is 11°C (51.8°F), while the average low temperature is 3°C (37.4°F), so dress well and hit the streets. Walk around the Christmas-decorated Aristotelous Square and take photos under the Christmas tree or sing the night away at one of the many live concerts.

Our Christmas “Must visit list”

1. Christmas Market

The magical fairytale starts from Plateia Aristotelous (Aristotelous Square), where you can find the impressive Christmas tree, and goes all the way up to Plateia Dikastirion (Court of Justice Square). In Plateia Dikastirion, there is a magical world consisting of wooden huts where you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee, mulled wine, chimney cakes, doughnuts and some of the best street food in the city. At the same time, kids of all ages can visit the house of Santa Claus, take photos with him and write him letters with their wishes for 2020. And if the cold doesn’t annoy you, then take a ride with the carousel and feel the Christmas spirit at its maximum.

2. Asterokosmos (Starland)

Asterokosmos (Starland in English) is the largest and most impressive Christmas park in the city located in the International Fair of Thessaloniki grounds. This Christmas world consists of a luna park, two ice-skating rinks, the house and the post office of Santa Claus. It’s the ultimate land that allows big and small kids to enjoy themselves and live some unforgettable Christmas moments. 23.000 square meters are waiting for you to feel the pulse of the Christmas holidays in Thessaloniki!

3. Ladadika District

Ladadika is one of the most popular historic districts of the city, and it has been officially designated as a protected area since 1985. The cobbled pedestrian streets and the brick, preserved buildings of the 19th century (old shops and olive oil storage areas, hence the name of the area), combined with the Christmas decorations of the many restaurants, café-bars, and nightclubs that have set up in the area today, makeup one of the most beautiful Christmas scenes in Thessaloniki.
